Visits 2025

The programme of visits for 2025 is complete. We planned to have 3 visits over the early to midsummer  period.

Tuesday June 10th: A Soft fruit themed visit is first on the agenda starting at the JHI in Invergowrie, Dundee (https://www.hutton.ac.uk/department/cell-and-molecular-sciences/soft-fruit-and-perennial-crop-genetics/). After lunch, the group will move on to Peter Arbuckle’s farm nearby focusing on their honeyberry enterprise run by Stuart Arbuckle (https://www.arbuckles.co.uk/?srsltid=AfmBOopm2BStH6CTFfuk4m_xcWYZG5X77a4atKYNn4QFD9K3GIw82AfW).

We hope that members of the ‘Grazers’ society of Aberdeen will join us on this meeting. (The ‘Grazers’ are a similar Society to Scotia, offering visits and talks for those with a link to academic institutions in the North East with an interest in farming and rural affairs).

Tuesday June 24th. The second visit will explore issues of regenerative farming in Fife. First, we will visit Matt Waldie at West Gilston Mains Farm, New Gilston, Leven, KY8 5PH. (See: https://www.facebook.com/4FrontFarmingCoLtd and also https://everydayclimatehero.org/matt-waldie).

Tuesday 19th August: The third and final visit will be to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh. The visit will include a talk about the research at RBGE and  a guided tour of the gardens with an opportunity for lunch. Friends and partners may be particularly interested in this visit but they are of course welcome to accompany members to any of these events if booked in advance.

Please put the above dates in your diary so as not to miss these opportunities. Further details will be sent out nearer to the time of each visit.
